The U.S. military developed product protects engines, batteries, and electrical systems as well as all metal, moving parts
Whether fishing, waterskiing, or sightseeing at sea, along the coast, or in a bay, lake, or river, recreational boaters require their vessel to be safe and operational. However uncontrolled corrosion, particularly in saltwater, can dramatically increase downtime and maintenance costs, as well as force emergency repairs and rescues.
“Saltwater corrosion will ‘eat holes’ in outboard motors and raw-water cooling systems, cause leaks in powerheads and manifolds, and kill batteries. When towboats bring recreational boats in, usually the battery terminal is corroded, causing power loss,” says
Captain Dave Stewart, a recreational boater and fishing/tour boat captain at Knee Deep Custom Charters (Minnesott Beach, NC).
Now StrikeHold® Marine, a high-performance anti-corrosion lubricant/penetrant developed for U.S. military use in the most extreme conditions, is available to stop and prevent saltwater rust and corrosion on all metal, recreational boat parts. Used by the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and USMC, its synthetic based additives completely penetrate into metal parts, displace moisture, and form a bond that repels saltwater and other contaminants.
“To prevent corrosion and keep everything in good working order, I use StrikeHold Marine on my bay boat’s engine, powerheads, steering, back end, trim and tilt, pivot points, grease fittings, deck hatches, basically anything that moves,” says Captain Dave.
To ensure reliable power and operation and prevent failure when boaters need it most, StrikeHold Marine’s 40K watt dielectric/non-conductive strength will also improve electrical performance by cleaning/protecting contacts, connections, and internal parts from corrosion. After disconnecting terminals, it can be applied to batteries and all electrical connections, such as lights, circuit panels, and marine electronics. Due to its strong dielectric properties, it can restore optimum electrical connection as well.
According to Captain Dave, who also runs an electric trolling motor repair and maintenance operation, after a hurricane sunk a boat and submerged its trolling motor for up to a week, he was able to restore the engine with the product.
“I rinsed the trolling motor with fresh water, dried it, sprayed it with StrikeHold Marine, wiped off the excess, reassembled the motor, and it ran again like it was ‘hot,’” he says.
Unlike oil-based products, the anti-corrosion lubricant and cleaner’s long-lasting, clear protective coating is non-greasy, and contains no wax, silicon, Teflon or graphite to gum up mechanisms.
“I also spray my fishing rods, reels, and other equipment with it. It dries quickly, does not get sticky or tacky, and extends their service life tremendously,” he says.
The lubricant and cleaner can also be used to “work loose” stuck, corroded fasteners on equipment that needs servicing, as well as remove rust, dirt, and grime from metal parts.
“StrikeHold will free up corroded screws so you can take equipment apart to service it. Because the marine environment tends to corrode everything, I also use it to free up ‘frozen’ zippers, snaps, etc.,” concludes Captain Dave.
In addition to ongoing maintenance, to prevent corrosion, the product can also be sprayed on engine components and marine equipment prior to long term storage.
